Planned Giving and Endowment
Philanthropy has played and continues to play a vital role in the success of WaterTower Theatre. A crucial philanthropic goal is to adequately endow WaterTower Theatre. An Endowment Fund ensures the future of the theatre and the presentation of the finest stage productions and vital education and community programs in accordance with the highest professional standards. The principal of WaterTower Theatre’s newly established Endowment Fund is carefully invested, while the annual interest generated supports WaterTower Theatre’s artistic and educational programs on an annual basis. All endowment gifts (minimum gift of $25,000) make a difference because taken together, they form a strong foundation that continues to grow for years to come.
You can help secure WaterTower Theatre’s future by making an outright gift of cash or securities, or a planned gift (bequest, life insurance, charitable beneficiary in your will, charitable remainder trust) to WaterTower Theatre’s Endowment Fund. Your gift will mean that WaterTower Theatre can continue to create exceptional theatre and education programs.
As a nonprofit theater, gifts from individuals, businesses, government and foundations underwrite 60% of WaterTower Theatre’s annual operating budget and are the means by which we create beautifully-crafted productions, keep ticket prices affordable and offer stimulating education programs. Across North Texas, WaterTower Theatre is known for artistic excellence and educational innovation - made possible because of this support.

A Legacy Bequest from Dick and Jacqueline Grote
"Jacqueline and I started attending performances of what was to become the WaterTower Theatre in the old Stone Cottage years ago. We saw splendid productions in this tiny space in an open field, and watched excitedly as the marvelous WaterTower Theatre was built. After attending almost every performance over 16 seasons in this spectacular theater, we wanted to do our part to make sure that WaterTower Theatre will continue long after we are no longer able to attend performances. That’s the reason we named WaterTower Theatre to receive a legacy bequest from our estate. We may not be there, but we like knowing that our favorite theater will be."

Holly Canterbury Fund For Artistic Excellence
Holly Canterbury made a leadership gift in 2012 to establish WaterTower Theatre's first Endowment Fund.
Mrs. Canterbury was an extraordinary lady. She had been the backbone of WaterTower Theatre since its inception. She believes so strongly in our mission, our value to the community and our long-term future that she recently made an extraordinary gift to WaterTower Theatre. It was a gift made to secure WaterTower Theatre’s future by the establishment of an Endowment Fund which we are calling The Heritage Society. Her gift is the largest single gift made by an individual in the history of WaterTower Theatre. More importantly, her gift is one of true leadership. Having an Endowment Fund is a goal that is often out of reach for many non-profit organizations. An Endowment, of course, is like having a savings account – security for the future.
Holly had been a resident of the Town of Addison for many years. She is one of the founding members of the Addison Business Association, one of WaterTower Theatre’s original subscribers, a former member of the WaterTower Theatre Board of Directors, a founding member of Women of WaterTower Theatre and active in our community in so many other ways.
It says a lot about an organization when a patron chooses to make such a gift, but it says far more about the giver. Holly was simply an amazing person. She has lived in Addison for more than 25 years and, during that time, has done so much for the Town of Addison. She is one of the longest-serving members of the Addison Business Association (ABA), she started the original Carnival at Oktoberfest in Addison and served as ABA’s President and Treasurer for many years. Theatre is her passion. Her belief in the importance of the arts to our community is demonstrated by the impact of her many years of support to WaterTower Theatre and, especially, by the enduring legacy of her recent gift to establish WaterTower Theatre’s Endowment Fund.
Holly Canterbury passed away on September 1, 2012. Her gift to WaterTower Theatre has left a lasting legacy for generations to come.
Thank you, Holly Canterbury!
