October 2 – 26, 2008

Father Flynn, a charismatic young priest, is adored by his students; Sister Aloysius, an unbending principal, is pleased by the fear she invokes in them. When Father Flynn begins to take special interest in a new student, Sister Aloysius begins to think the unthinkable. But when a nun’s suspicion is weighed against the word of a priest, how does one determine the truth? The winner of 24 major awards, including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize, Doubt, a Parable is a gripping exploration of the question, “What do you do when you’re not sure?"

03/31/05 - WaterTower Theatre to be Featured on National Public Radio's All Things Considered

National Public Radio’s All Things Considered has selected WaterTower Theatre as one of only seven theatres across the country to be highlighted during their “American Stages" series. The “American Stages" series, which debuted March 3, examines the rich history and cultural contributions of America’s regional theaters

WaterTower Theatre’s segment, which airs March 31, is entitled Theater Shape & Design. It explores how resident theaters looked beyond the proscenium arch to reshape auditoriums and make theater a more intimate experience. All Things Considered senior arts critic Bob Mondello visited the WaterTower Theatre March 13 – 15 in preparation for the segment.

The segment focuses specifically how WaterTower Theatre uses the Addison Theatre Centre, a 200 seat performance space that can be reconfigured in numerous seating configurations on an annual basis. Mr. Mondello witnessed the conversion of the space from a thrust configuration to a new configuration called “tennis court seating," a configuration where the audience sits across from one another with the playing space in the center.

Those interviewed for the segment include WaterTower Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin, Artistic Associate James Paul Lemons, and scenic designer Clare Floyd DeVries. Gary “Corky" Cunningham, architect and designer of the Addison Theatre Centre, was also interviewed for the story.

Other theatres highlighted on the “American Stages" include Arena Stage in Washington, DC (1976 Regional Theater Tony Award Winner), Borderlands Theater in Tuscon, Arizona, Perserverance Theater in Douglas, Alaska, Chicago’s Goodman (1992 Regional Theater Tony Award Winner), and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, Alabama.

NPR is renowned for journalistic excellence and standard-setting news and entertainment programming. A privately supported, non-profit, membership organization, NPR serves a growing audience of 22 million Americans each week via more than 760 public radio stations.
